Is Lindsey House for You?

If you are facing homelessness, you may be a qualified candidate for our Lindsey House program if you have a history of supporting your family through employment. Lindsey House provides housing and services to homeless or near-homeless women caring for children.

Lindsey House offers a unique solution to situational homelessness. We partner with program participants to create individual service plans designed to reduce debt, manage expenses  create savings, and increase a family’s resources. Education, employment, and financial accountability are the keys to regaining self-sufficiency. If you are committed to using these keys to open the door to self-sufficiency, then Lindsey House is the program for you.

Are You Qualified for Lindsey House?

We believe that families who receive support and services can overcome the impact of situational homelessness. We seek to provide services to families who meet all of the following qualifications:

  • A family, headed by a woman, must be homeless or near homeless.
  • Woman has legal custody of up to three children. 
  • Children must be no older than 17 years.
  • School age children must be enrolled in an accredited school.
  • The female head of household must be employed or actively seeking employment.
  • If she has no high school diploma or GED, the female head of household will enroll in a GED course.
  • The family agrees to actively participate in the Lindsey House program and abide by all program and premises rules and conditions.

What Can You Expect?

Lindsey House expects that each mother will work hard at achieving stability and move into permanent housing. To this end, program participants are required to be employed and working while all children must attend school.

Lindsey House services include strengths-based case management, budget planning and coaching, family management support, employment and education support, general life skills, and a furnished apartment. Some of the other program expectations include but are not limited to the following:

  • Program enrollment fee that is due upon entry into the program
  • Monthly program fee based upon your income paid by the 10th of each month
  • Monthly savings deposit based upon your income paid by the 10th of each month
  • Community chores
  • Passing regular apartment inspections
  • Clean and sober environment
  • Commitment to working the program

Families may be eligible to participate in the program for up to 18 months depending upon their progress with the individual service plan and compliance with program and premises policies.

How Do You Apply for Lindsey House?

We are not a domestic violence, substance abuse, or mental health program. If these are the main causes of your homelessness, please call 2-1-1 for referrals to a more appropriate program.

Our application process can take up to ten days and it begins with a pre-screen assessment over the phone. If you are a good match with our program you can fill out an application and possibly interview with staff. Staff interviews applicants and accepts families based on their situation, their desire to overcome homelessness, and their overall ability to complete a rigorous program.
